This Glass is Greener
New Glass Material Inspired by Seashell Unleash Unparalleled Strength and Thermal Insulation
Glass plays a vital role in many aspects of modern life, from windows and touchscreens to scientific equipment. One of its key properties is thermal insulation, which can help reduce the flow of heat in and out of buildings. Using insulated glass can boost energy efficiency and lower energy costs for heating and cooling. While glass provides thermal barriers, it does have limitations compared to other materials in terms of insulation performance and durability against impacts. Its thermal insulation and impact resistance are not as high as alternatives like stone or certain plastics.
Now, a team of researchers from the University of Science and Technology of China has made a significant breakthrough in glass technology, developing a transparent composite material that addresses these challenges.
