A Cure for Obesity: Innovative Drug Reduces Body Weight by 11%
These drugs are also changing our understanding of obesity (as a disease) and raising questions about a culture obsessed with thinness.
Obesity and overweight have become significant health concerns in China, affecting more than half of the adult population. These conditions often accompany other health issues like hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperglycemia, posing a threat to public health.
To combat this ongoing obesity epidemic, innovative medications have been developed. A recent phase 2 clinical trial has shown promising results for mazdutide in the treatment of obesity and overweight individuals in China. Mazdutide is a chemical with the ability to combine with both glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucagon receptors, which regulate the glucose (sugar) and energy metabolism in the body. The trial, conducted by Peking University on a group of Chinese adults, evaluated the efficacy and safety of mazdutide over a 24-week period.
